While the jury was out deliberating the fate of value-based care, the market has continued to embrace alternative payment models. A recent study conducted by the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network found that 87% of healthcare organizations expect the prevalence of alternative payment models to increase. Most notably, 92% of payers expected this trend to result in better quality of care, 85% believe it will make care more affordable and 93% expect it to improve care coordination.

In the face of peer sentiments such as these, healthcare delivery organizations that want to increase their risk profile are hard-pressed to do so using current information technology. IDC, a leading global provider of market intelligence and advisory services, issued a report in May 2022 to help providers and delivery systems make informed IT purchase decisions that will support the successful pursuit of value-based care contracts.

IDC Market Glance: Value-Based Health Services, 2Q22 (Doc # US49058422, April 2022) identifies the technology and services to create a complete value-based care solution for risk-bearing entities. According to IDC, many of the vendors that are represented in the VBH Strategy and Management segment are those that are best suited to deliver enterprise-wide adoption and are prepared to take on management of some of the many services.

“IDC recommends that healthcare organizations seek vendors that provide a full complement of services across the technology spectrum of value-based contracting strategy and management, reimbursement and contracting, and care management to ensure success,” states Lynne A. Dunbrack, IDC’s Group Vice President, Public Sector.

Vendors were categorized into three broad areas: strategy and management, reimbursement and contracting, and care management. 26 vendors were identified, and their capabilities were reviewed to place them in 11 categories of technology and three (3) categories of service.

Cedar Gate is differentiated by its capabilities across the spectrum of all 11 technology categories. The company’s technology and services have been recognized by analyst firms and the media for its ability to enable providers, health plans, and self-funded employers to pursue any value-based care payment model in every line of business.
